Frequently Asked Questions

General

What is Appilot?

Appilot is the platform that adds intelligence to any web app. Under your control, its AI does two things for you: it helps you operate the app (step-by-step guidance grounded in your organization's knowledge and the live screen), and it acts on your behalf when you ask. Think of it as a colleague who knows how your tools work and can either walk you through a task or do it for you.

Does it work on any website?

Almost. The Chrome Extension works on any website you visit, with two exceptions: sites you have paused it on yourself, and Appilot's own sites. The public site, this documentation, the downloads page and the Appilot consoles (My Account and the Backoffice) are documents and admin tools rather than applications the assistant can operate, so it stays off them.

Everywhere else, how useful the answers are depends on whether your organization has configured knowledge for that site or domain.

Do I need to pay?

Not during the closed beta. There is no self-serve purchase: accounts are issued by invitation and come with a credit grant your administrator sets. Your access level follows your organization's arrangement with us. To ask for access, join the waitlist at appilot.space.

Using the assistant

Why doesn't the assistant know the answer to my question?

The assistant's answers come from your organization's knowledge base. If a topic hasn't been documented yet, the assistant won't have an answer. You can create a knowledge request to flag the gap.

Can I use Appilot in multiple languages?

Yes. Appilot supports English, Spanish, and German. You can change the language in the extension settings. The assistant can also respond in the language you write in.

Does Appilot work offline?

No. Appilot requires an internet connection to process questions and retrieve knowledge.

Privacy

Does Appilot read my passwords?

No. Password fields, one-time codes, payment card fields and hidden fields are withheld from every read and every action. The assistant is told the field exists and whether it is filled, never what is in it.

Does Appilot read what I have typed into a form?

While you are just browsing, no: it reads the page's structure and no field values at all. When you ask it something, yes: it reads the values it needs to answer you, which is how it checks a field or fills in the rest of a form. The four kinds of field above stay unreadable in both cases. Privacy & Security sets out the difference in full.

Can my employer see my questions?

Yes. An administrator of your organization can open the conversations held under that organization and read the questions, the answers and what the assistant did. Appilot staff on a small number of platform accounts can do the same across the platform while the beta runs. Treat the assistant as a work system, not a private notebook.

Can I turn off data collection?

You can turn PII masking off or on in the extension settings, and you can pause Appilot entirely on any site from the page's context menu. There is no browsing collection to turn off: Appilot records what you do with Appilot and nothing about where you browse. See Privacy & Security for details.

Troubleshooting

The floating button doesn't appear

  • Check that you are not on an Appilot site. The assistant does not load on appilot.space, this documentation site, or the Appilot consoles
  • Check whether you paused Appilot on this site: right-click the page and look for Resume Appilot on this site
  • Make sure the extension is enabled in chrome://extensions
  • Some pages with strict Content Security Policies may block extensions
  • Try refreshing the page

The assistant gives irrelevant answers

  • Make sure you're signed in to the correct organization
  • Check that your organization has configured knowledge for the domain you're on
  • Try being more specific in your question

I can't sign in

  • Verify your credentials at app.appilot.space
  • If your account is still pending approval, contact your organization's admin
  • Clear browser cookies and try again
